SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team swept its doubleheader with the University of Dallas on Saturday, taking game one 6-5 before earning a 10-6 game two victory. The ’Roos have now won three games in a row and are 7-15 overall and 2-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In game one, Dallas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Nathan Patton in the top of the first. Austin College got on the board in the bottom of the third when Austin Dudley scored on a grounder by Scott Gelbart, and an RBI single by Gus Daniel squared things at 2 after five innings.

Chance Hatchel led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer, and Gelbart followed with an RBI single before Daniel doubled down the line to score two more and give the ‘Roos a 6-2 lead. Dallas would answer with four runs of their own in the top of the eighth, but Braley Williams pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and Brett Taff came in to toss 0.2 innings in the ninth and earn the save.

Christian Thomas picked up the win for Austin College, surrendering three runs on six hits in 7.0 innings of work while striking out eight and walking five. Dudley went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Thomas Oberg went 3-for-4, while Daniel finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Ryan Hammonds took the loss for Dallas, giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 6.0 innings.

The Crusaders once again struck early in game two, plating a run on an error in the top of the first. Austin College would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, with Daniel singling home Dudley, and Oberg later scoring on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. Dallas evened things up in the second, but Bennett Reagan and Hatchel each notched two-run singles in the third to put the ‘Roos ahead 6-2.

Dallas once again countered with a four run inning in the top of the fourth to make it a 6-6 game, but in the bottom of the fifth the ‘Roos plated four runs, all with two outs, to go on top 10-6. Oscar Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch to get things started, and Dudley brought home another run with a single. An error enabled Dudley to score, and Daniel doubled to left field to plate Oberg for the final run.

That’s all the ‘Roos would need, as Tanner Logsdon came on in relief to toss 5.0 no-hit, shutout innings with four strikeouts to earn the first victory of his college career. Daniel finished the game 3-for-4 at the dish with two RBI, and Oberg went 3-for-5. Hatchel went 2-for-5 with two RBI, and Dudley went 2-for-3. Cole Mordern came on in relief for Dallas and took the loss, surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits in 2.0 innings.
