Second Saturday - The Sex Lives of Frogs Around the World

Among frog species, tremendous variation exists in reproduction and development. Dr. Michael Keck, Professor of Biology at Grayson College, will discuss the typical reproductive patterns of frogs from the United States and contrast them with various groups of frogs from other parts of the world, especially the tropics, additionally including, some of the more bizarre examples of frog reproduction and development.

 

Christmas Bird Count

Saturday, December 16, 2017, 7:00am 5:00pm

Annual Christmas Bird Count for the Hagerman Circle. Meet at the Visitor Center at 7 am; you will be assigned to a team. You may volunteer for half day or all day. Bring binoculars, water snacks; teams will drive to assigned sector, some walking also. Dress for the weather. Please email us to sign up. A count social/supper will be sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman at 5 pm. Contact friendsofhagerman@gmail.com for more information.

Geese At Hagerman NWR

November - February - Trips to Hagerman NWR to see the huge flock of wintering geese are an annual holiday tradition for many visitors. Please stop by the Visitor Center for information and visitor services such as maps, free wildlife guides and binoculars-for-loan.

 

Free Tram Tours, Saturdays & Sundays

Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm, Recommended for adults and children 6 years old and over.

Take a guided tour of the refuge with an expert birder aboard the open air, all-electric Carlos and Eulalia Cardinal Express!  Enjoy a trip along Wildlife Drive and some of the Pad roads at the Refuge, with frequent stops to view and photograph wildlife, especially birds.  Learn about the history of the town of Hagerman and the operation of the refuge.

 

This 60-90-minute guided tour is offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm, weather permitting.  Seating space is limited; please call to reserve your seat: 903-786-2826 between 9am-4 pm Monday thru Saturday or from 1pm to 5 pm on Sundays.  Please speak to a volunteer when making or cancelling a reservation as volunteers are unable to access messages on the Refuge phone system.  Tours are free of charge; however, donations to the tram maintenance fund are appreciated.
