Ribs n’ Raptors fundraiser for injured birds of prey

Lucas, Texas -- The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is having its 3rd Annual Ribs n’ Raptors fundraiser, Saturday November 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  BBQ and local craft beer will be served, live birds of prey will be introduced to guests, and there will be live and silent auctions to support what has quickly become one of the 10 largest raptor centers in the country.

Blackland Prairie Raptor Center has received more than 625 patients so far in 2017, in only its second year of raptor rehabilitation operations. As the most comprehensive raptor center in the area, BPRC expects to expand its capabilities to handle 900 patients within a couple years. The Ribs n’ Raptors fundraiser is the main donation event of the year for BPRC.

BPRC’s recent celebrity patient was Harvey the Hawk, a Cooper’s Hawk received from the Houston area after jumping into a taxi cab. After a short rehabilitation period, Harvey was released in Plano on September 13.

“Harvey was just one of hundreds of raptors returned to the wild so far this year,” says Erich Neupert, Executive Director of BPRC. “As the DFW area continues to grow, more sick, injured and orphaned raptors are being found. We must continue to expand our capabilities to accept these patients.”

The Ribs n Raptors fundraiser will help fund the expanding needs of the center including a very large flight cage for Bald and Golden Eagles, a digital X-ray machine and other necessary medical equipment.

Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is a state and federally permitted facility in Lucas, Texas whose mission is the rehabilitation and release of birds of prey in North Texas as well as outreach programming with live raptor ambassadors.
