Paris, Texas -- Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that work to widen US 82 in Fannin County will begin Oct. 15. The contractor will begin setting barricades near the limits of the project on Oct 8.

The contractor, Austin Bridge & Road Services LP, Irving, Texas, was granted 900 working days to complete this project valued at more than $71.5 million. Officials said the target completion date for this project is winter 2021, weather permitting.

The contractor will expand US 82 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median, from mile west of State Highway 121 in Bonham eastward to approximately sixth-tenths of a mile east of State Highway 56 in Honey Grove, Texas. The contractor will work Monday through Saturday, officials said.

Motorists who regularly travel this portion of US 82 in Fannin County are asked to pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones; especially while this construction is underway. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
