McKinney, Texas -- The 9th annual Veterans of Foreign Wars Golf Tournament is currently signing up players and sponsors for this years’ event, to take place on the beautiful course at El Dorado Country Club, McKinney, Texas, on Monday, May 20, 2019, tee-off at 8:30 a.m. The proceeds of the tourney will go to the Collin County Veterans Memorial in McKinney, the Collin County History Museum and VFW Lone Star Post 2150 of McKinney, which sponsors a multitude of community activities conducted throughout the year.

Everyone is invited to play. The tournament is sponsored by veterans, but you do not have to be a veteran to play. Breakfast and lunch are included in the entry fee. There will be prizes given, with a ball drop, putting contest, longest drive (one for men and one for women), closest to the pin, and a special Par 3 hole-in-one challenge, in which a 2019 Camaro, courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet, will be given away. Golf carts are provided for all players.

Burton Gilliam, former Golden Gloves Boxing Referee and Actor, star of Blazing Saddles among other movies, along with a host of former professional athletes have volunteered their time to participate in this very worthwhile event. Celebrity players include former Dallas Cowboys: Phil Pozderac, Billy Joe Dupree, Everson Walls, Angelo King, Doug Donley; from the Kansas City Chiefs, Ken Jolly; and former SMU great and NBA star, Ira Terrell, with more to be confirmed in the coming days.

Following play there will be a fajita luncheon, featuring as MC, Scott Murray, Emmy-Award winning sports anchor and journalist for NBC5 for many years. Scott will host a raffle, silent auction and live auction. Dozens of prizes have been donated by North Texas businesses, and every player will receive a very nice door prize. Items donated thus far include: a Pointer Field Series Over/Under 12-gauge shotgun, a military style 1911-A1 .45 caliber pistol, Sun Mountain golf bag; golf accessories, sports memorabilia; dozens of gift certificates for restaurants, movie theaters, spas, hair and nail salons; golf packages at popular golf resorts; liquor baskets; gift baskets, prizes for men, women and kids, with more still coming in at this time.

A feature item for the auction is a Personal Tour of the Collin County Jail and lunch or dinner with the Sheriff himself, Jim Skinner.

The early entry fee is $100 per player; after May 1 the fee is $150, which is a great bargain for what the price includes, especially a chance to play at the exclusive members-only El Dorado Country Club. The tournament is limited to 140 players, so get your foursome together and sign up. Hole sponsorships are also still available.
