Home Depot and strip mall evacuated after natural gas leak

McKinney, Texas (June 4, 2019) – The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) responded to a call about a gas leak at 1515 N. Central Expy at 8:36 a.m. A construction crew hit and damaged a 6-inch natural gas line while doing work behind the PetSmart store in the shopping center.

The McKinney Police and Public Works departments assisted in securing the area while PetSmart and with other businesses in the area were evacuated. The MFD removed the dogs and cats from the PetSmart. Oncor shut down power to the area and Atmos Energy arrived to start shutting down the leak and making repairs. As of now, the stores and parking lot remain closed as the repairs continue.

“A significant amount of natural gas has leaked throughout the area,” said McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith. “We are closely monitoring the levels to make sure that the community is protected.”
