Bonham, Texas -- Monday evening (9/9/19) the Bonham City Council voted unanimously to; lower the municipal tax rate by just over 3-cents from the current $0.686400 /$100 of assessed value to $0.6550 for the coming year (Jan. 1, 2020), adopted the City’s FY ‘20 budget and ratified BEDCO’s FY ‘20 budget. Council also approved a professional services agreement with the Sanchez Group to provide highly specialized technical assistance to staff for the continued implementation of key aspects of the Visioning Bonham 2017 – 2025 Plan and replicated to a significant degree as foundational tasks set forth in the Bonham - Housing Action Plan (B-HAP) ‘Playbook.’ These complimentary documents each identify updating Bonham’s development-related processes including streamlining codes, zoning and subdivision ordinances, policies and procedure.

The Sanchez Group has significant experience working with rapid growth cities like Anna, Melissa, Celina and a fledgling Frisco a decade and a half ago. With the steady progress of the NTMWD’s “billion+ dollar” Bois d’Arc Lake initiative Bonham is undeniably poised for significant residential, recreational and commercial growth.

The group’s proposal outlines a roughly eight month {excluding holidays} timeframe to systematically accomplish coordination of: Project Management & Administration, Policy, Codes and Ordinance Review & Evaluation, Positioning & Promoting (the City of) Bonham for Development, and finally rolling-out the finished product(s) to the Developer & Builder Community.

Having previously reviewed the Sanchez Group’s proposal, supporting documents and presentation at their August board meeting BEDCO’s Board voted to include significant funding to underwrite slightly more than two-thirds of the estimated cost of these services in BEDCO’s FY ’20 budget although they will refrain from being a party to the professional services agreement approved by the City Council between the City of Bonham and the Sanchez Group.

“This is a very comprehensive proposal that goes well beyond a narrow residential focus” Executive Director - Economic Development Steve Filipowicz said: “it encompasses commercial, retail and industrial development as well as aspects of downtown Bonham revitalization. I look forward to working closely with The Sanchez Group professionals, Bonham’s Community Development Director Mark Kinnaird and our entire city development team in readying Bonham for what some have termed the ‘concrete tsunami’ of rapid growth as it rolls up TX Hwy 121 towards Bonham.”
