McKinney commemorates 9/11 with wreath-laying ceremony

McKinney, Texas -- The McKinney Chamber of Commerce Leadership McKinney Alumni Network commemorated Sept. 11 with a remembrance ceremony this morning at Dr. Glenn Mitchell Memorial Park with a wreath-laying ceremony and remarks from Mayor George Fuller, a 9/11 NYC first responder, Van Taylor and others.

Today's ceremony is part of a three-day event called "Patriot Day-A Timeline of Remembrance." Community members can take a self-guided tour through the park that contains a timeline of 9/11 events. The timeline will be available through Sept. 12.

"What was intended as an act of terror which left unfathomable devastation in its wake became an example of the strength of this country," said Mayor George Fuller. "While we are incredibly thankful that McKinney has never had to endure the kind of attack that New York felt 20 years ago, we are also thankful to know that the men and women of our Police and Fire Departments, our Sheriff's Department, and the DPS who are here to protect our safety."
