Bonham Warriors 76, Commerce 53

Commerce, Texas -- The Bonham Warriors opened district with an impressive offensive display, outscoring the Commerce Tigers, 76-53.

The Warriors led 29-6 after the opening period and took a 42-26 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Jeren Ross had two rushing touchdowns, including one for 96-yards, and Mason Rodriguez hit pay dirt three times as the Warriors built a 16-point lead.

Commerce stormed back in the third period as the Tigers took a 46-42 lead, but a touchdown pass to Cade Bowser helped Bonham slip in front, 48-46.

But Commerce wasn't finished and the Tigers scored to take a 53-48 lead.

Jeren Ross's third TD of the game gave Bonham a 54-53 lead as the third quarter ended.

Ross's next big play came on defense when he picked off a screen pass and raced into the end zone.

Another touchdown by Rodriguez gave Bonham 76-53 victory to open District 5-3A.

Rodriguez and Ross both finished with five touchdowns.

Ross rambled for 279 yards and Rodriguez rushed for 108 yards.

Jacob Gordon was just under the century mark with 96 yards carrying the ball.

Dustan Sewell had five catches for 100 yards.

Bonham (2-2, 1-0) will host Mineola on Friday, October 1 and Commerce will travel to Mt. Vernon on October 1 as district competition continues for both teams.
