McKinney and one other Texas city
are the first to achieve this status

McKinney, Texas -- The City of McKinney received all six transparency stars from the Texas Comptroller’s program, which recognizes local government entities that provide easy online access to important financial data. McKinney earned stars in the areas of Traditional Finances, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Public Pensions, Debt Obligations, and Open Government and Compliance. McKinney and one other Texas city are the first to achieve this status.

“The Texas Comptroller sets forth some of the most rigorous standards for financial transparency for local governments that I’ve seen,” said City Manager Paul Grimes. “We are thrilled that McKinney is recognized for the highest level of financial transparency in Texas. Our commitment remains strong to expand avenues for residents to stay informed about city activities and actively engage in local governance.”

In addition to pushing for greater access to a wider range of local information, the Comptroller's transparency stars program highlights government efforts to provide taxpayers with the tools necessary to better understand and analyze financial information. Therefore, information like budgets and check registers can’t just be placed online, but they must be searchable and organized in a way that allows users to perform analysis on raw budget data.

“The City Council and I have always championed public transparency, and we are pleased with this recognition and the dedication of our city staff in achieving it.” said Mayor George Fuller. “It's fantastic news for McKinney that our community offers more avenues for engagement, access to factual data and information, and opportunities to stay informed. Every citizen deserves open government.”

McKinney is committed to transparent government and promotes accountability by providing information for citizens so they may see exactly where their tax dollars are going. But the city’s transparency reaches far beyond finances. For more information, visit McKinneyTexas.org/Transparency.
