Sherman, Texas -- The Sherman City Council called a Special Election for September 14, 2024, to fill the unexpired term that was vacated by Deputy Mayor Shawn Teamann, when he announced his candidacy for Sherman Mayor. The position open is the District 1 Council position and the unexpired term will be until the Regular Municipal Election in November 2025.

Candidate filing for the Election begins Monday, June 10, 2024, and ends on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Candidates may obtain the necessary application and supporting documents from the City Clerk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All eligible voters in Sherman will vote for the District 1 City Council position on the ballot.

Any citizen considering making an application for candidacy must live in District 1, which is located in northwest Sherman, and includes property north of the former Texas and Pacific Railroad right-of-way (north of Washington Street), and west of the center line of Travis Street to its intersection with the City limits. Candidates must also be a United States citizen, 21 years of age or older, a resident of Sherman for the past twelve months, and must be a registered voter.
