Bonham, Texas -- Porter Wallace was born at Allen Memorial Hospital in Bonham, Texas on March 5,1955 to Wilma Wroena Cox and Marron Charles Wallace. Charles Porter Wallace left us on June 4, 2024 headed home to rest with Jesus. When he died, he was doing what he loved most, towing trucks and teaching his grandson how to be a good man.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Wallace on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, TX, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Wix, Carrol Brown, Paul Wallace, Sr., Paul Wallace, Jr., Kyle Wallace, and Josh Curry.

Porter was a self-made man, learning early on that you have to take care of yourself and your family, no matter what. He hasn't had a supervisor since he was a young teenager, only once that I know of. He started and ran two businesses on his own for the last 40-plus years -- Wallace Sanitation and Wallace Towing. He is well known and loved in Fannin County first, then surrounding counties as well. His grandson Calvin, brother Paul, nephew Kyle and friend Bryan all worked closely with Porter on a daily/weekly basis. We could write a book about Porter telling all the good that he has done, but there's not enough room for all the stories here.

Porter loved his family and friends with all his heart and would starve and do without in order to take care of them. We lost count on how many kiddos he loved and raised and was still helping raise. Now don't get me wrong, Porter was no angel and the stories he told me indicated he was a handful as a teenager.  The police around Bonham at that time could speak to that, because he kept them busy!

Porter had great respect for and loved the Bonham people. He said he would never leave Fannin County because it was his home and Porter's wishes will be granted. He loved to talk to people and many will miss him. Share your stories about Porter with one another crying and laughing just like you would if he was right there with you!

Porter is survived by his daughter Joanie Renee Wallace, stepchildren: Barbara Jean Fogleman, Gene Weldon Fogleman, David William Murray Fogleman, Grandchildren: Calvin Lee Wayne Wallace, Makayla Mullins, James Porter Allen Reynolds, Kaitlin Briann Colbert, Cloey Jean Starr, Matthew Allen Starr Caden Wayne Dove, Cain Lee Wayne Dove with Chazney Shiann Colbert, Georgia Lynn Colbert Wallace, Marilyn Nichole Colbert, Iris LeeAnn Piper, Eleanor Gail Piper, Patience Savanna Fogleman , Jacob William, Don Fogleman ,William Maury Fogleman, Hunter Clay Fogleman, Logan Clay Fogleman ,Christopher Allen Stockton, Jayden Stockton, and Levi James Fogleman;   sisters: Marsha Elaine Sohm, Laura Jean Preston, Patty Lynn Burns, Alice Lea Wallace, Una Mae Starr and Pamela Denise Wallace; brothers: Paul Wayne Wallace, and Fletcher Lee Wallace; along with over 100 nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Mr. Wallace is preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Wroena Cox and Marron Charles Wallace, children: Christy Gayle Wallace and Brandi Lee Wallace.

We all feel lost and distraught at the moment, shaking our heads, thinking "Daddy, Papaw, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Porter, we're NOT ready for you to go!" and "Who's going to tell us what to do, help us when we call you and love us like you do? Nobody can do those things the way you did it."

The family thanks everyone who has reached out and offered your love and support. It means the world to us, and Porter would be very happy with you for doing it.
