Bonham, Texas -- Around 2001, I started coming to visit Don Blevins at the great big round table in the middle of the store. I would love to sit by him and sink in the knowledge that he would give me on all the experiences that he had accomplished in the many years before and during his Hickory BBQ career. That is when it all started with every Wednesday meeting of the boys with Don.
We had a full variety of some of the “Greatest Minds” or so we thought, City of Bonham has ever had. The round table was a place where we would tell some of the experiences we had, and some of the wisest tails that you could ever imagine.
The funniest one I can remember is when Jeff Kinkaid started a tail about a tree growing in someone’s stomach. Don laughed so hard, we thought he wasn’t ever going to stop. Or the time, the guys kept stealing my ribs while I was getting something to drink. We grew a bond that we will never forget with Don.
The round table started with David Kinkade, Jeff Kinkade, Don Kinkade, Jeff Stogdill, Charles Pratt, Lynn Kincade, Weldon Brown, Carl Waterson, and John Lindsey, and me, and occasionally some other people would show up.
The round table brought laughter to Don and a close friendship that would last forever. Although some of the guys are not with us on this earth anymore. Don brought a bunch of people together with a common goal “To Save the World and all its problems, and eat a Hickory Club and a dessert of Cherry Crunch mixed with a chocolate sheet cake.
We will miss Hickory BBQ and would like to thank Mrs. Ruth and Phil for putting up with us every Wednesday.
