Sherman, Texas -- Robert Erwin Reid, 94, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, in Sherman.

Robert was born on November 20, 1929, in Sherman, Texas. His parents were Marvin M. Reid and Inez Riley Reid. He was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by his two siblings, Mac Reid and Sara Reid Stivers Brummer.

He graduated from Sherman High School in 1948, where he ran track and played football. He then attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma where he played football before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1950 through 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

He married Gail Turner Browning on July 5, 1968, in Sherman, Texas.

Robert was survived by his wife Gail and his daughters, Sylvia Reid Wynne and husband Wilson; Lisa Reid Hill and husband Glenn all of Sherman, son Craig Reid and wife Lisa of McKinney, Texas, grandchildren are Amy LaMondue, Phillip Hill, Henry Hill, Emily Reid Young and Brantlee Reid. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He was co-owner of Reid and Keel Tile Company in Sherman for 28 years until retirement in 1995. Robert was a regular for 60 plus years drinking coffee with friends at the Dairy Queen on Sunset and one of the longest active and sustaining members of Sherman Country Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved trout fishing on the White River in Arkansas and the Madison River in Montana in addition to bass fishing anywhere.

He was a history buff with an uncanny memory even into his final days. Robert attended First Baptist Church, Sherman, Texas and professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his savior.

His infectious laughter, quick wit and storytelling of events only he could factually recall will be greatly missed!

A visitation will be Sunday, June 23 at Waldo Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 24 at First Baptist Church of Sherman with Dr. Mike Lawson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Hill, Phillip Hill, Henry Hill, Wilson Wynne, Jordan Henry, and Craig Reid.

Honorary pallbearers will be the DQ Coffee Club, Dave Sroufe, Johnny Foster, Curtis Burris, Tim Foley and Joe Walker.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the HOPE Scholarship Program through the Sherman Ex-Students Association. The HOPE Scholarship assists students seeking 2-year degree programs or trade school licensing in lieu of a traditional 4 year college degree.
