Grayson County, Texas -- Tuesday, October 08, 2024, at 6:30 in the evening, the Grayson County Historical Society will have as their guests, Erin Patterson and Jamie Seibert. They are Founder and Co-Founder of Women's Vintage Society of Dallas (WVSD for short).

Erin Patterson

As we all know women played a huge part in World War II.  The men went off to fight and some of the women went to work outside the home for the first time.

The program will be of the ladies covering the home front, some went to work in the ship and plane yards.

One well-known lady of interest was Rosie the Riveter who lived to be a ripe old age of 96 and died January 2018.

Some of you may remember the ration books; everyone in the family had a book. Even though one may have had money but no stamp, one was not able to buy certain items. You had to have stamps for shoes, tires (casins), sugar, just about anything. There were many recipes for cooking during that time of life.

While the men fought abroad the women played many significant roles in World War II. For some were nurses, mechanics, postal workers and more. They also drove trucks, cleaned houses, flew planes, grew crops, broke codes and took care of the home and children.

On June 12,1948 President Harry S.Truman signed into law the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces. They can serve in all branches of the U.S. military which includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and the Space Force.

Erin, Jamie and their friends do what they can to keep history alive by educating through their dressing of historical fashion.

The village is midway between Sherman and Denison off Hwy 75, exit 67. Meeting time is 6:30 in the evening with doors opening at 6:15 being greeted by Pam and Gerald Alblas, our host and hostess.
