Freddy & the Falcons in concert at Linden's Music City Texas Theater Aug. 19
By media release
Aug 13, 2006
Linden, TX - Rock around the clock with Freddy & The Falcons at Linden’s Music City Texas Theater on Saturday, August 19, at 8 p.m. If you enjoy the classic sounds of the fifties and sixties, or if you just want to have a good time, squeeze into your poodle skirt and Levis, grease your hair back into a ducktail, and have an old-fashioned rock n’roll party with Freddy & The Falcons!
The Falcons have been playing rock n’roll for as long as they can remember. Maybe even longer! You see, a tragic encounter in 1965 with a mob of screaming, hysterical teenage girls who had apparently confused “Freddy & The Falcons” with “Freddie and the Dreamers” (a “British Invasion” group from Manchester, England, who were then at the height of their popularity) left the Falcons in a collective coma until 1980, when advances in modern medical techniques enabled the entire group to be revived. Since they have no recollection of anything occurring after their tragic accident, Freddy & The Falcons today play nothing but AUTHENTIC 50s and 60s style music. They HAVE to. It’s all they can remember.
Freddy & The Falcons’ members are Scott Smith (vocals), Daingerfield's Murray Conklin (guitar & vocals), Dan’s cousin Lee Ewing (bass & vocals), Bob Seligson (saxophone), and Kent Kolman (drums & vocals.)
The Falcons play a mixture of fifties and sixties music, covering artists such as Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley & His Comets, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, and countless other classic rock’n’roll legends. With the authenticity that comes only from a complete inability to do it any other way, the Falcons perform their songs “from the heart.”
Freddy & The Falcons have shared the stage with stars like the Drifters, Wolfman Jack, and many others. They have recorded musical intros used “on-air” for disc jockeys at radio stations KLUV and KAAM in Dallas. They released a vinyl single in 1981 which is nearly impossible to find today. Singer Scott Smith’s encyclopedic knowledge of rock history won him the Grand Prize in a KLUV-FM trivia contest: a brand new house! (He also served two terms as Mayor of the town of Trophy Club, Texas, where he resides.)
Through it all, one thing that has remained constant with Freddy & The Falcons is a commitment to having fun, entertaining the audience, and “putting feeling ahead of technical perfection,” as Les puts it. “If I make a mistake, which of course I never do, I know that Lee has already made ten or twelve, so I’m not gonna flip my wig, man. That’s not what rock and roll is about!”
