Farmersville -- "And that's the way it's done," remarked an elated Bonham coach Julie Vigil as her girls walked off the field with an 11-3 district win over Farmersville in a contest played on Saturday.
Bonham began chipping away with singles in the first inning, but a pair of inside-the-park homers and a triple allowed the Lady Warriors to pull away from the Lady Farmers in the middle of the game.
Consecutive singles by Lauren Kretlow, Renee Breach and Emily Sanderson allowed Kirstin Sanders, Kretlow, Breach and Bridgette Hubbard to score in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom half of the frame, Farmersville got a nice hit by Kristy Tedford and another solid single by Caity McKee let Tedford come home to trim Bonham's lead to 4-1.
Dani Hilger blasted a triple and followed that with an inside the park home run inher next two at bats as the Lady Warriors stretched the lead to 7-1 after four innings.
Chelsea Young worked the Farmersville pitcher for a bases loaded walk and Sanders singled in another run for a 9-1 advantage in the top of the fifth frame.
In the bottom half, Caity McKee knocked in two runs for Farmersville to make the score 9-3 after five innings.
In the top of the seventh, Suzanne Speed rapped out a single and Sanders hammered Bonham's second inside the park home run to make the score 11-3.
Bonham's Bridgette Hubbard went the distance on the mound to pick up the win and the right-hander held the Lady Farmers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady Warriors are now 4-3 in District 9-3A and fighting for second place. Bonham will host Royse City on Tuesday, April 12.
