Hi-Steppers in Macy’s Parade

The Sherman High School Hi-Steppers sent six of their team members to New York City to participate in the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 24. In order to qualify to participate in the parade, each team member attended an American Dance and Drill Team camp during the summer. The officers of the team attended an officer camp in June and the line members and officers attended a line camp taught in July at the high school. Seven members qualified as All American or All American Honorable Mention and earned the right to attend the parade. Of the seven, six were able to participate.

The group performed in the Mike Miller and Associates featured performance "Symphony of the Seas" and were featured in bright, royal blue sailor outfits complete with hat in Herald Square right in front of Macy’s. There were approximately 650 members from all over the United States in the show. The "Performance Team" members were told that there were three institutions in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade that were there regardless of weather conditions. Those three are the Radio City Music Hall Rockette’s, Santa Claus at the end of the parade every year, and the Mike Miller and Associates dance teams. This is the twentieth year that Mike Miller and Associates has had groups participating in the parade.

Those participating in the parade were Captains AnnMarie Cannon and Lacy Fisk and Lieutenants Blaine Littrell and Raechel Sims, and line members Lauren Marquart and April Stewart. These team members were in New York City for six full days of rehearsals and activities. Included in the activities were a Broadway Show, Sweet Charity, the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, a trip to the Empire State Building, and many opportunities for shopping and sightseeing.

Drug-Free is Best

Congratulations to Perrin Elementary students, Jayson Eleby(first grade), Sandy Pachicano(third grade), Laura Pitts (second grade), and Muhammad Hossain(second grade).

These four students won the slogan contest for "Why we need to stay drug-free."

Jayson Eleby's slogan said, "No drugs for anyone!" Sandy Pachicano's winning slogan was, "You use, You lose, So don't do drugs!"

Christmas Around The World

The students in First Grade at Wakefield Elementary have been studying Christmas Around the World to learn about customs and cultures of other countries.

One activity involved the children making gingerbread houses using milk cartons and graham crackers. They read the story, "The Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett to go along with their houses. These children are in Mrs. Teresa Conner's first grade class.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for the Bearcats and Cowboys!

To celebrate the anniversary of Cold Stone, the owner, Dallas Cowboy #19, Keyshawn Johnson came to Sherman. He signed autographs and cheered the Sherman Bearcat Football players on during the ice cream eating contest. Radio Disney broadcasted the event and gave away yummy prizes during the anniversary celebration. The Bearcat Cheerleaders helped to rally support for the players and had a fun time visiting with Keyshawn.

Spreading Cheer at Fairview

During the holidays, schools are an excellent place to get you in the mood for Christmas.

With all the precious children singing and acting and dressing up like Santa and the reindeer, one can't keep from feeling festive, merry and bright! Under the direction of Bryce Gage and Dustin Kahler, the Sherman High School choir spread joy at Fairview Elementary by singing Christmas carols to the first graders in the gym.

A Dog in the Choir?

Third grade students at Crutchfield performed for parents and friends, "A Place in the Christmas Choir." Happy the dog, played by Ronald Rivas, was sad because he wanted to be in the choir. He howled as the choir sang which caused the boys and girls to notice him and they decided to include him. This made Happy the dog really happy!
