A large crowd filled the Bonham Civic Center May 5 for the highlight of the chamber year. Bill Jones, Executive Director of the Bonham Area Chamber, welcomed the audience and Boy Scout Troop 260 presented the colors. As the crowd stood, Tasha Brown sang the national anthem.
A great prime rib dinner was next on the agenda and then came time for the awards portion of the evening. Emilie Porter was named "Volunteer of the Year" in the first presentation.
Hal Fowler gave the first annual "Public Servant of the Year" Award to Corey Baker, calling the young man "one of the most conscientious people I've ever seen."
Cooperative Extension Agent Chris Schraeder stepped up to name Larry Smith as the "Agriculturist of the Year."
Allen Sanderson of Bonham State Bank, the "2004 Business of the Year", came forward to name the 2005 winner. Clayton Homes earned the title of "2005 Business of the Year" and Francis Moran accepted the award.
Leonard and Marie Gerner, the "2004 Citizens of the Year," took their turn at the microphone next.
"The flea market is nice, but I almost bought four things before I found a place to park," Mr. Gerner quipped in reference to Trade Days held this past weekend at the same location.
The Gerners presented the "2005 Citizen of the Year Award" to Joe Pulliam.
Swing Street Connection entertained dancers as friends visited for the remainder of the Chamber Banquet.
