Camp Maxey-National Guard Base Camp Maxey will be the home of over one hundred Civil Air Patrol cadets. Starting Sunday June 18, and ending on June 24, the week will be filled with many activities, from firearms safety to model rocketry. There is also a cadet specialty school that focuses on intensive emergency services training.
A group of senior members will be on hand to mentor the cadet staff in their individual roles. The cadets will spend the week learning about military drill and ceremonies, standard customs and courtesies, and proper uniform wear.
This annual Texas Wing Summer Encampment, like other Texas Cadet Programs, draws cadets from not only Texas, but also from other states.
CAP, the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, performs 95 percent of all continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. More than 56,000 volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.
The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the almost 25,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing "missions for America" for more than 60 years.
