Breanna Goodwin, daughter of Drew & Deirdre Goodwin, has been chosen as one of eight entering freshmen to qualify for the University to Medical School Initiative (UMSI) Program at Texas Tech University.

Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine offer an exciting and competitive program designed for academically talented and highly motivated students interested in pursuing a M.D. degree. By meeting the special requirements and deadlines of this joint program, a select group of entering freshmen are guaranteed admission to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine after completion of a Bachelor's Degree at Texas Tech University. Combined with undergraduate coursework and medical school, the student is looking at 8 years of study. (This is not an accelerated, 6, 7 year, or other type of fast-track program to Medical School.)

Primary qualifications to be considered for this program:

- High School Senior classification

- Minimum 1300 SAT or 30 ACT (includes math and critical  reading sections only)

- Ranking in the top 10% of high school class

- Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 on four-point scale in a college prep program

- Acceptance into the Texas Tech Honor’s College

A limited number of candidates were invited to TTU for a series of interviews in early March. Selections  were announced in late April.

Breanna attends Van Alstyne High School and is Valedictorian of the 2007 graduating class. She is currently an AP Scholar, member and President of National Honor Society, President of the Biology Club, and Secretary of the Calculus Club.

She has received numerous UIL academic awards, and has been very active in Grace Presbytery youth activities. Breanna has also received the Good Citizen award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a National High School Scholar, a member of Who’s Who of American High School students, and has resided in Bonham for 18 years.
