As members of the Bonham business community looked on, Brad Brookshire summed up why Brookshire Grocery Company was breaking ground on a new 36,000 square-foot store located at 2228 Island Bayou Road in Bonham.

"Bonham has been a great place to do business and we believe in giving back to the community," the president of Brookshire's marketing group explained.  "We've got a good store now, but this one will be great."

The new store is expected to open by November 2007 and will offer a pharmacy with two drive-thru lanes for convenience and a four-pump gas station, in addition to the traditional grocery, market, delicatessen, bakery and produce departments, plus a special floral department.

To meet the needs of today's ever-growing health conscious population, the new store will offer a variety of Health & Harmony items.  Health & Harmony is Brookshire's line of organic and natural products.  And, to make mealtime easier for families on the go, the delicatessen will offer a wide variety of prepared foods specifically chosen for customer convenience.

The existing Brookshire’s opened in March 1978.

The new Brookshire's store will feature a decor package customized specifically for Bonham, with photographs and memorabilia depicting the community's history adorning the store walls.

"Thank you for making Bonham a better place to live," Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd told officials from Brookshire Grocery Company attending the groundbreaking ceremony.  "This will help our community grow.  We're excited because there are a lot of good things happening."

Bill Jones, Executive Director of the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce, thanked Brookshire's for their "faith in our future" before presenting store manager Charles Herpeche with a plaque commemorating the groundbreaking.

"I love this town," Herpeche said, noting how the close-knit community helped him through the difficult days following the recent loss of his father.

"Moments like that make you realize how much this town means to you," Herpeche remarked.  "It makes you realize how much your family means to you and it makes you realize how much your corporate family means to you.”

Dirt work began at the site, located southeast of the intersection of Hwy. 78 and U.S. 82, in March.  This fall Bonham shoppers will be enjoying all the amenities of the new store.

"We would like to thank the community of Bonham for making us part of your family for almost 30 years," Brad Brookshire commented. "Our goal is to provide you with the food and services you want, the convenience you need, and the experience you love.  We sincerely hope that you enjoy your shopping experience in this store."
