Aircraft crash at Jones Field claims life of Leonard man

Bonham -- The early morning crash of an aircraft classified as an amateur-built, experimental single-engine airplane claimed the life of a Leonard resident Wednesday, August 15.

The aircraft departed from Jones Field at approximately 7:00 a.m. and a witness observed the single-engine plane veer immediately to the right and crash. 

Impact occurred less than 200 yards north of runway 35 at Jones Field.  Ronnie Dewayne Wren, 61, of Leonard, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene.  Wren was the pilot and only passenger.  

The aircraft had been housed the aircraft at Jones Field.

Federal Aviation Administration personnel arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation. 

The body of the pilot was taken to Southwest Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
