Corby Alexander, Bonham City Manager and Rotarian, gave a report at the Bonham Rotary Club on April concerning projects in the works at city hall.
Alexander first spoke about the work the city is doing regarding infrastructure. The city manager said the most visible project is the new water tower going up at the southwest entrance to the city.
New water tower going up
This water tower is to replace the aging downtown water tower. The downtown tower has minor structural issues and is too small to adequately meet the growing city's needs.
Alexander said the most frequent question he has received about the new water tower is, "What is going to be written on it?"
The city council has voted to have the words - City Of Bonham - on the water tower.

Also, the city is installing a high circuit pump station that will pump the water from the new treatment plant to the city in a larger and more efficient capacity. The city manager stated there are various other water projects (water and sewer lines) throughout the city that will be noticeable in the next year. If you would like to see a map of these projects in order to see if it effects your neighborhood, it is available at city hall.
The city has applied for a grant for infrastructure and he feels confident that the city will get the grant to help finance these projects.
Alexander also discussed the recreational needs in Bonham. He spoke of the Powder Creek Park that is now in the works. He said that there are no dedicated soccer facilities in Bonham, but the city is working with the county to get several soccer fields built out by the Multi-Purpose Facility.
In other happenings, the city manager reported that the city has demolished approximately 30 dilapidated structures. Also, under economic development, several new industries and businesses have come to Bonham in the last year. Corby Alexander and his family have been in Bonham nearly a year now and much progress has been made since his arrival.
The Bonham Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Family Life Center.
