DRESS AND GROOMING. The District’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority and the work environment. Students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat, not a distraction in the instructional setting, and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others. The District prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the principal’s judgment may reasonably be expected to cause distraction or interference with normal school operations. The student and parent may determine the student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided they comply with the general guidelines printed in the Student Code of Conduct book, which each parent will receive when school begins. The dress code is also detailed on the www.shermanisd.net Website. Click on Schools and select your campus.
Fall Sports Now!
After a week of two-a-days the Sherman High School volleyball teams began their preseason scrimmages this weekend. The regular season begins August 12. Bearcat football practice starts August 11, 3:00 – 6:00. A preseason scrimmage at Bearcat stadium is scheduled for Friday, August 22 beginning at 5:30 for the freshman team.
Shown here are the 2008-’09 senior members of the football team and the senior cheerleaders. They invite you to come out and support all fall sports – cross country, volleyball, swimming, football, golf and tennis.
Construction Tour
Sherman I.S.D. Superintendent, Dr. Al Hambrick recently offered a construction tour to Sherman/Denision media outlets. Sites visited included Washington, Crutchfield and Sherman High School. SISD’s Director of Facilities, Chuck Edwards, was also on hand to give facts and figures as needed. The new facilities will give students the space needed for an environment most conducive to learning, keep the neighborhood school as priority, and relieve all campuses of portable buildings.
Shown here are Dr. Hambrick and Chuck Edwards responding to questions from Herald Democrat reporter, Connie Harshman and photographer, Chris Jennings.
Frequent water breaks
"It gets hotter, we get better," encouraged Sherman High School band director, Ryan Jenkins as students marched in 100 degree weather.
SHS band members arrived Monday morning at 8:00 to begin practice for the fall football half-time shows and their year long competitive events.
"Frequent water breaks" was the phrase of the day – one every 20 to 30 minutes.
Band 2-A-Days are all day!
Most people have no idea how much time it takes to maintain an award winning band like the Sherman Bearcat band. Every summer, at least three weeks before school starts, band members attend day long practices from 8-12 and 1:30-5. The dedication is amazing. "Move from one key to the next with a single motion," instructed percussion director, James Smith.
Shown here are percussion band members, Tyler Hatch, Alex Werner, Melissa Flanders, Henri Roelke, and Jon Reynolds under the direction of James Smith and drum major, Julie Rulla.
Tight Fit but Cool!
Melodious tunes floated through the hallways at Piner as the Sherman High School band played, "Cider House Rules" by Portman/art.Klesh.
Assistant director, Scott Anderson sees and hears the students improving daily. The morning band practices are spent outdoors marching on the asphalt practice pad at Sherman High School. Shown here is the afternoon practice at Piner Middle School.
Though they are a bit cramped in what is known at Piner as the "box," students are relieved to be out of the heat.
