Homecoming is here again at UNT: 'Vote Mean Green Nation'

DENTON (UNT), Texas ¾ The University of North Texas welcomes alumni, friends and the community to participate in two days of festivities on Oct. 24-25 (Friday and Saturday) before the Homecoming 2008 game against Troy University. This year’s Homecoming theme is “Vote Mean Green Nation,” in keeping with the upcoming presidential elections.
Special Homecoming celebrations will include the Golden Eagles Reunion for the Class of 1958; the 50th anniversary celebration for the TALONS, the oldest organization on campus and UNT’s official spirit and service organization; the first all-decades Green Jacket reunion and the TAMS Alumni Reception for the Class of 1993, 1998 and 2003. In addition, UNT’s first African-American fraternity, the Phi Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, and African-American black sorority, the Zeta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, will celebrate their 40-year anniversaries at the university.

Oct. 24 (Friday)
- Spirit March at 7 p.m. The march starts at Fraternity Row on Maple Street and proceeds to the bonfire site at UNT’s Eagle Point Campus, located on the west side of Interstate 35, across from the main UNT campus.
- Bonfire and Yell Contest at 8:15 p.m. at UNT’s Eagle Point Campus, located on the west side of Interstate 35, across from the main UNT campus. Join in one of UNT’s oldest traditions, the lighting of the bonfire, fireworks and the student yell contest.
Oct. 25 (Saturday)
- Athletic Hall of Fame Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the ballroom of the Gateway Center, located on North Texas Boulevard between Eagle Drive and Highland Street. Join in the breakfast buffet and induction of the 2008 Athletic Hall of Fame recipients. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door. Contact Steven Bartolotta at 940-369-8329.
- Floyd Graham Society Luncheon from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Silver Eagle Suite of the University Union, located one block west of Welch and West Prairie streets. Dance to the Aces of Collegeland Big Band, director Jack Rumbley. Musical program by UNT alumnus Bob Dorough, pianist, singer and composer of “Schoolhouse Rock.” Reservations are $30 and include lunch. Visa, MC and check accepted. - Parade at 1 p.m. The parade starts at Welch and Hickory streets, travels around the Denton town square, and ends at Highland Street at North Texas Boulevard. For more information or to enter, visit http://homecoming.unt.edu/2008homecoming/parade.html.
- Alumni GameDay Grille from 3-5:30 p.m. The pregame party for members of the North Texas Exes will be located on the northwest concourse outside of the UNT Coliseum. - Brave Combo will perform from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Bud Stage in the Mean Green Village, located on the west side of Interstate 35, across from the main UNT campus.
- Pre-game tailgating will be held before the homecoming game against Troy on Oct. 25 (Saturday) on the UNT campus. Visit the tents filled with activities, giveaways, food and much more.
