Bonham -- Funeral services for Carl Edward McGehee, 75, of Bonham, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008   at First Presbyterian Church in Bonham under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Dr. Larry Thomas and Rev. Wesley Geary will officiate.  Led by the Patriot Guard, burial with Naval honors will follow in Restland Cemetery in Roxton, Texas.  Carl passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.

 

Carl was born April 4, 1933 in Olney, Young Co., Texas, the son of Jesse James McGehee and Margaret McGinnis McGehee.  He attended schools in Olney and Henrietta, TX.   Carl married Joyce Cearley, July 5, 1957 in Waurika, OK.  He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. 

 

Carl loved to hunt, make hunting knives and refinish antique furniture.  He was a safety tech (retired) at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham where he was the union president for many years and a volunteer dispute resolution mediator.  He was a board member of the Bonham Golf & Country Club.  During the ‘70’s and ‘80’s he was a member of the Bonham Civitan Club. 

 

 

Carl was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was active in the worship committee.  He was a CASA volunteer for 13 years. 

 

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jesse McGehee, Jr.  and Charles McGehee and sister, Lorene Pennington.

Daughters:  Carla Weldy of Towanda, PA

                Deborah Mitchell and husband, Kenny of Denison

                Tonya McGehee and Rose Stock of Bonham

                Teresa Stewart and husband, Jerry of Bonham

Sister:  Gwenyth Rogers of Graham, TX

Brother-in-law:  Calvin Cearley and wife, Jeannette

Grandchildren:  Sean Weldy, Sonya Steele, Brandy Webb, Krissi Mullennix, Jennifer Balvin, AshLee Shelley, Gann Mitchell and Megan Stewart

Great Grandchildren:  Logan and Raigan Steele, KateLynn and Michalea Shank, Austin Mullennix, Avery Coker, Ashton and Aydan Balvin and Gage Webb.

 

Pallbearers will be Billy Ray, Gann Mitchell, Kenny Mitchell, Sean Weldy, Jerry Stewart, Calvin Cearley, Billy Cearley, and Scotty Cearley.  Honorary pallbearers will be men of First Presbyterian Church and great grandsons, Austin Mullennix, Avery Coker, Ashton and Aydan Balvin and Gage Webb.

 

Memorials may be made to the Fannin County Children’s Center, 112 W. 5th St., Bonham, TX 75418.

 

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday night.
