Madill, Oklahoma - Although rain may fall in the Madill area through early Friday, local spirits haven’t been dampened when it comes to the 40th year of the National Sand Bass Festival.

Entertainment is a large part of this annual event in Madill and Tuesday night’s talent show packed in a standing-room-only crowd.  Vince Vance and the Valliants are scheduled to hit the stage at 8:30 Thursday evening, with Chalee Tennison featured on Friday night and Nashville recording artist Doug Stone headlining the Saturday night finale.

Several interesting booths had crowds gathered around all week.  Some visitors watched in awe at one location as a fellow turned out perfect arrowheads by using a copper-covered striker.  Down the street was gifted artist Diana Cuyos, a Pauls Valley resident.  Ms. Cuyos had a group waiting in line as she created wonderful charcoal and pencil sketches that came to life in her hands.  On a very good day, Diana said she can finish 60 drawings.

The carnival rides were filled with happy children.  School is out and the carnival is in town…that is a nice way to start the summer.

Although it skipped a few years, the Sand Bass Festival began in 1963 and is a local favorite of vendors and festival goers alike.

Smiles were everywhere...

This booth had several interesting wind chimes.

Kids and carnivals always make fun photos.
