Tom Bean Tomcats take on Honey Grove in Saturday scrimmage

Coach Chad Worrell has his Tom Bean Tomcats focused on continuing the success of 2002. Last year the Tomcats went 11-2 and seven All-District performers are back for more, including one of North Texas' most exciting runners, Buddy Hansen. The Tom Bean offensive line should be effective again and Hansen's 4.4 speed puts him through the secondary in a hurry.
But, short distances away in Anna and Whitewright, teams are preparing for another interesting race in District 13-2A. Whitewright went 6-1 in district last season and finished second to the Tom Cats, while Anna finished 5-2. No one should overlook Blue Ridge, because the Tigers also went 5-2 in District 13-2A.
Right now Tom Bean is looking no farther than Saturday's scrimmage at Honey Grove. The Warriors operate out of the shotgun and Honey Grove is a big, fast class 2A squad that could very well be a factor come playoff time.
Coaches were stressing getting several defenders around the football to combat the strong Honey Grove running backs.
"I don't care what defense you are playing," Coach Worrell told his troops during Wednesday afternoon's practice, "if we get 11 guys going to the football we will be successful."
