Sherman at Mesquite Poteet Pirates

The Bearcats are working their way up in the polls and look for another strong showing against District 12-4A Mesquite Poteet.  The Pirates can line up a pair of running backs with 4.5 speed and their offense is built around Jordan Johnson, one of the speedsters.  The defense is led by bruising linebackers Matt Dailey and Brock Hesse, with speedy safety Bernard Haggerty coming up fast for run support.

Sherman opened up the 2003 season with an exciting come-from-behind win over Wichita Falls.

A couple of Bearcats combine for a tackle.

Hangin' on for the tackle.

The Bearcats held Wichita Falls QB Tommy Henderson to just over 50 yards on the ground.

The Sherman defense holds on for a tackle.

Denison hosts Wichita Falls Rider

The Jackets have it working on both sides of the ball now.  Last week Denison rode roughshod over Dallas Samuell to the tune of 37-0.  This week the Raiders come to town with a fast wide receiver and a defensive end that is even quicker.  Ishmean Hearon runs a 4.5 and it doesn't take him long to get to the play from his defensive end spot.  Wichita Falls Rider has a new coach and Scott Ponder is bringing his winning ways from Class A 2002 state champ Petrolia.

Van Alstyne at Howe

Time to break out the spike!  These two neighboring teams knew each other very well even before Howe picked their head coach from the Van Alstyne staff this year.  Look for this to be a very spirited match.  Van Alstyne won 28-7 last year, but look for a close game Friday night.

If Howe QB Josh Farris can get the passing game going to keep the defense from concentrating on the inside game of Stephen Mize, this could be an interesting contest.

The Howe cheerleaders go through a routine.

Bonham hosts Lake Dallas

Bonham stayed close to Gainesville for the first half last week and the Warriors will get another tough test Friday night when the Lake Dallas Falcons fly into town.  Lake Dallas was young last year and Everman rang up 78 points on them in the playoffs.  The Falcons bring back nine starters on offense and 10 starters on defense from a team that went 3-2 last year in District 7-3A, so this season they expect to have their talons out.  Their dangerous back is Brandon Carter, but another ball carrier, Daniel Oppone, is also fast enough to get outside.  The Falcons have a good offensive line with a standout center and they are expected to be a playoff team again in 2003.

Bonham will have to take care of the ball this week when lake Dallas visits.

Bubba Scott (#24), with gave Jameison Patterson leading the way, had several good runs against Gainesville.

Bonham's defense had good pressure on this play.

Celina at Sanger

Celina is coming off a bye week and the Bobcats will travel to Sanger Friday night.  Celina has returning starter John Clark at quarterback and an impressive offensive line with bookend tackles Gabe Gutierrez and Jeff Ashabranner.  Sanger has a pair of solid ball carriers in Terry Del Rio and Josh Clements, but Celina is too strong up front.

Celina QB John Clark returns to direct the Bobcat attack.

A Celina running back runs wide.

Celina's offensive tackles even have their own cheering section.

Gettin' set for a hit...

Gainesville hosts Lake Worth

The Leopards have two one-sided shutouts to start the season and Gainesville will try to contain speedster Sammie Thompson (4.4) and big QB Henry Douglas for the Bullfrogs.  One player that stands out on both sides of the ball is Anthony Kester, WR/DB with 4.5 speed.

Gainesville running back Terrius Pervey cuts inside for yardage.

The Leopards are scoring big points on offense...

...and shuttin' 'em out on defense.
