Ready Set Teach

Students in Verna Sharer’s Sherman High School’s teacher intern program are looking into their future and what they see may or may not be a teaching career. The Ready Set Teach class is an excellent way to discover if you are suited to teach.

“This is truly a hands-on course where high school students get a chance to interact with children in a classroom environment,” explained teacher/sponsor Verna Sharer. "During the hours spent in a classroom, as they observe a teacher in action and share in instruction, students grow to realize the rewards and the
difficulties that a teaching career offers.”

The class is open to juniors and seniors and involves 2 1/2 hours every other day in an elementary or middle school classroom.

Can you spell precipice?

Jesse Noblet can and that is the word she spelled to win the Piner
Spelling Bee last week. Allison Lopez, Cristian Soltero, and Sara Walker held a close second, third and fourth place while spelling difficult words such as ostentatious, colloquial, and magnanimous. The test is administered each year by former Piner principal, Mike Mitchusson who said that he was impressed by the high number of students who continued in the competition past the first 100 words.

“This is confirmation that our teachers are doing a great,” he said.
