Haltom City, TX — The deadline for teams to register for Haltom City’s 7-on-7 Spring Football League has been extended to June 5. The league is the first of its kind in Tarrant County and will be used as a prototype for the formation and operation of similar leagues in other parts of Texas.

The league is open to teams throughout the Mid-Cities. Teams are encouraged to register in two divisions: 12-and-Under and 14-and-Under. The teams will consist of a maximum of twelve players participating in touch football games. The league schedule launches on Tuesday, June 9, for a seven-game regular season and a single elimination tournament. The registration fee is $300 per team.

Anyone interested in registering a team or needing more information can contact Christi Pruitt, Haltom City Recreation Supervisor, at 817-831-6464, e-mail at cpruitt@haltomcitytx.com, or visit the City’s Web site, www.haltomcitytx.com.

Haltom City is working with the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) to establish a prototype league that TAAF could adapt to sports programs statewide. Following the season, TAAF will review the league’s operation and activities, then adopt the best elements for similar programs within the state. Also participating in the prototype phase is a similar league in Mesquite, TX.

“This is a great way to develop a program that could actually help kids statewide to enjoy spring football. It also could be used as a skills development opportunity for local junior high school teams because it could help their athletes to polish their game skills by having an extra eight games to work on fundamentals,” said Tom Henry, Director of Parks and Recreation for Haltom City.
