Chattanooga, Tennessee -- Jennifer Lynn Wall Mitchell, Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center of Hamilton County, passed from this life on July 14, 2009.
Along with being a driving force in helping to keep children in two states safer from abuse, she was also a devoted mother to her own son, Dustin.
Jennifer was born August 18, 1965 in Ft. Worth, TX. She was the daughter of Noel and Nancy Wall, currently of Bells, TX and the granddaughter of R.E. Monroe, Denison, TX. She was educated in the Plano, TX school system where she graduated with honors. Thereafter, she was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce and then completed her Master's in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Texas campus in Tyler, TX. She received an accounting degree from Collin County Community College in McKinney, Texas.
She was a champion of children and animals. In her teen years, she was a dedicated equestrian and won many awards.
Jennifer began her career in accounting, but later after receiving her Master’s degree transitioned to her work in children’s advocacy. Jennifer had a rare passion and excellence in her work in helping to save children from physical and sexual abuse and became well known in Texas for her particular skills in conducting forensic interviews. She rose to be Executive Director of the Henderson and Anderson Counties Children's Advocacy Center in Texas where she sharpened those skills and developed her fine leadership qualities.
She and her family moved to Chattanooga after she was hired as the Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center of Hamilton County in April 2005. During her tenure she made tremendous strides in strengthening the organization fiscally and planning strategically for the future.
Along with her parents and grandfather, Jennifer is survived by her beloved son, Dustin Mitchell of Chattanooga, husband Randy Mitchell of Chattanooga, stepdaughters, Somer Page of Carthage, Texas and Shanna Cloudt of Bonham, Texas, her sister Shelley Parks of Plano, Texas, her sister and brother-in-law Noelle and Brian Sweany of Rockwall, Texas, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Brainerd Crossroads (BX) located at 4011 Austin Road, Chattanooga, 37411. Chattanooga Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Services in Jennifer’s home state of Texas is scheduled for Saturday July 25, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison will be in charge of those arrangements.
Her family has requested that donations may be made in her memory to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County.
