Recently U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas) visited Encore Wire and heard about their efforts to move to a green-business model and their healthcare success story. Headquartered in McKinney and founded in 1989, Encore Wire Corporation manufactures a broad range of copper electrical wire for interior wiring in homes, apartments, manufactured housing and commercial and industrial buildings.
Encore Wire has implemented several green components to their company because of concern for the environment, not because of government requirements. For example, Encore recently installed a special state-of-the-art air quality system for assuring clean air is emitted from its copper melting furnace. Encore Wire is one of the few companies in the world utilizing this technology for melting high quality copper in a vertical gas-fired shaft furnace.
In addition, Encore created its own health clinic on site for employees and their families. According to the CEO, Daniel Jones, the company leaders firmly believe that this employee benefit has dramatically cut down their formerly sky-high healthcare costs.
Despite the softer economy, Encore has recently hired 80 people in the last eight months and currently employs 670.
Encore Wire is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ and uses the symbol WIRE. To learn more about the company, visit www.encorewire.com .
