Ivanhoe, Texas -- Funeral services for Lela Avis Calaway Morris, 81, of Ivanhoe, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. James Rogers and Bro. Kevin Lane will officiate.  Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.  Lela passed away Monday night, Sept. 21, 2009 at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham.

 

Lela was born Dec. 30, 1927 in the New Hope Community of Fannin County, Texas, the daughter of Wise Whisenhunt and Ethel Dunn Whisenhunt. She attended New Hope school and graduated from Bonham High School.  Lela married James Alva Calaway who preceded her in death, Apr. 10, 1967.   She was raised on a farm and enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.  She was a member of Duplex Baptist Church.

 

 

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Willorene Barton and Johnnie Lou Dickey, and 3 brothers, Harold Whisenhunt, Jimmie Whisenhunt and Floyd Whisenhunt.

 

She is survived by ~

Son:  James Richard “Dicky” Calaway and wife, Linda of Ivanhoe

Daughters:  Donna Knox and husband, Gene of Balch Springs, TX

                Debbie Johnston and husband, Mike of Ivanhoe

Sister:  Mary Ethel Fogle of Ravenna

Sister-in-law:  Melva Norris of Ravenna

Grandchildren:  James Jr., Jimmy, and Jacob Calaway, Emily Gibbs, Cortney Brown, Cagney Fox, Courtney Cooper, Ryan Johnston and Kelly Knox

Great Grandchildren:  Tyelor, Lynleigh, Madi Jo, Rylei, Regan, Reese, Luke, Dakota, Weston, Hallie, Layne and Case

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

 

Pallbearers will be David Whisenhunt, Tony Nichols, Nolan Norris, Keith Dickey, Craig Myracle, Mike Johnston, Gene Knox, & Jon Cooper.

 

Memorials may be made to Duplex Baptist Church, 323 CR 2102, Ivanhoe, TX 75447.

 

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday night.
