As part of the ongoing presentations from the Tom Bean Police Department to the students at Tom Bean ISD, recently Police Chief Michael Webster presented school bus safety information to the new kindergarten students at the Tom Bean Elementary School.

Chief Webster handed out some safety books and stickers so that the children could take them home and go over it with their parents.

School bus safety is always a very important topic to present each year to the new kindergarten students since school is new to them.

Below are some safety rules that were presented to the students along with information for their parents.

School Bus Safety Rules

School bus safety starts with you, every morning and every afternoon. Take a few minutes to make sure your kids understand the rules of the road.

Most school bus fatalities occur when children are outside the bus, and three quarters of these tragedies involve children under the age of nine.

Make sure your children know these rules:

  1. Be on time.
  2. Never run to or from the bus.
  3. Stand back from the curb.
  4. Don't push or shove.
  5. Stay in your seat.
  6. Don't yell or shout.
  7. Always obey the driver.
  8. Wait for the driver's signal before crossing.
  9. Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
  10. Never crawl under a school bus.
