Whitewright has its 6th Annual Fiddle Fest on May 29, 2010, at the Civic Center in downtown Whitewright.  The show starts at 10:00 A.M. and ends when it's over.  Hopefully, it will end before the fiddler sings.

There will be winners in four age divisions, (0-15; 16-35; 35-54; 55+), along with an accompanist division.  The Grand Champion will be played off between the 1st and 2nd place fiddle winners from each category.

Louis Franklin was from Whitewright and was seven-time winner of World Champion Fiddler.  The smooth "Texas style" was perfected by Louis Franklin. He was known all over the USA for his prowness with the fiddle.

Although competition starts at 10:00 A.M., the Louis Franklin Championship rounds out the day when finalists from the four categories compete.  This begins around 4:30 P.M.  There isn't a bad fiddler in the bunch.  All competitors are members of TOTFA, (Texas Old Time Fiddlers Association), which sanctions the event.

Last year's event featured fiddlers from Oklahoma, Louisiana, Idaho, Arkansas and Texas.  Last year's winner was Bubba Hopkins of Sapulpa, OK. It is always incredible music!!

This year will be a bittersweet competition.  Louise Franklin, Louis's wife, died shortly before last year's contest, and Louis died shortly after.  They will be sorely missed by their family and friends.

Larry Franklin, Louis's son, a three time Grammy winner and two time winner of CMA 's Fiddler of the Year, will be back to help with the competition.

Jason Andrew, Louis's grandson, returns as competitor and all round manager of the event.

Julie Johnson, of Always, Patsy Cline fame will MC the free concert om the afternoon featuring herself, Larry and friends.  Super sounds!
