The week of May 2-8, 2010 is National Correctional Officer's Week.  This week is set aside to acknowledge the work done by all men and women serving in the field of corrections and to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10:30 a.m., a formal memorial service will be held at the Fannin County Multi-Purpose Complex to honor the memory of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional staff and all correctional staff across the nation who have given their life in the line of duty.  The public is invited to join us as we remember.

This year, staff from the Buster Cole and Choice Moore units, in conjunction with employees from the Fannin County Jail, will memorialize twelve fallen comrades who sacrified their lives in the line duty.  This list includes detention officers, jailers, juvenile corrections officers and parole officers from local jails, state and federal agencies across the nation to include Texas Department of Criminal Justice, District Parole Officer Reuben Hejl, who lost his life when his motorcycle left the roaday on a curve, while performing a parole home visit on May 19, 2009.
