May 12, 2010 will mark the eighth anniversary of the murder of Jennifer Harris, a Fannin County resident whose nude body was discovered in the Red River six days after she was reported missing.  The autopsy report listed the cause of death as “homicidal violence.”

The subsequent years of investigation by the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the Texas Rangers produced a mountain of data, but unfortunately no arrests.  However, that may change as new details have emerged to re-energize the investigation.

Acting on new information, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office has received permission from the family to exhume Jennifer Harris’ remains for further forensic testing.

“We believe these additional examinations could be crucial in proving elements of our case,” said Lieutenant Parker of the Sheriff’s Office.  “We appreciate all of the citizens who have come forward in recent weeks with tips and information, and encourage others with any information, no matter how small, to contact our office.  We will be speaking with a number of people who have been interviewed in the past, and with others we believe may have more to contribute.”

Investigators at the Sheriff’s Office are under strict orders not to discuss details of the case, but said they are hopeful that the new direction and momentum of their investigation will result in justice for this victim and her family.

Jennifer Harris (Holman) was last seen alive on Mother’s Day May 12, 2002 in Bonham, TX. Jennifer’s green 2000 Jeep Wrangler was located May 13, 2002 on County Road 2610 in the area of Lake Bonham.

Jennifer’s body was found May 18, 2002 on the Oklahoma side of Red River.

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are actively working this homicide.
