Volunteer firefighters sacrifice their time, comfort, and often their own safety to support those in their community. There are those who eat chili and those who cook chili and some that do both.  Firefighters and chili come together November 6 at Whitewright’s Grand Street Fall Festival for the first ever Firefighters Chili Cook-off. This will raise funds for participating departments and decide who makes the best chili within Grayson, Fannin, Collin and Cooke counties.

Teams are still needed and can be entered as a volunteer or paid fire department team or a citizen team.

“We decided to begin holding the Firefighter Chili Cook-off in order to support area volunteer fire departments," said Whitewright Area Chamber of Commerce President Brett Christoffel. "Often they need help in purchasing much needed equipment/gear and/or make repairs. We look forward to growing the cook-off every year and since it is on the same weekend as Terlingua we are offering those passionate about chili to stay North and join us for a great day of chili, for a great cause”

Chili can be purchased by the bowl directly from  teams or you can pay only $5 and taste all teams chili  and vote for your favorite! The Chamber is still accepting teams and will be for the remainder of October.

Remember that space is limited, so register your team today or consider sponsoring a team or fire department. Complete information and application are available at www.grandstreetfallfestival.com or you may contact the Chamber directly at (903) 364-2000.
