An overflow crowd filled the Fannin County Court at Law courtroom Tuesday to witness an historic occasion -- an Investiture Ceremony for Charles W. Butler, the first person elected to serve as Fannin County Court at Law Judge.

"I am honored and humbled to serve," Judge Butler remarked before the ceremony began. "I think this is an important court for Fannin County and I think everyone is looking forward to getting this process in motion. I am very excited about working hard every day and accomplishing as much as possible."

District Judge Laurine J. Blake welcomed the crowd and colors were presented by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 129 of Bonham, Texas. Special remarks by Michael Evans, president of the Fannin County Bar Association and Criminal District Attorney Richard Glaser followed.

Judge Blake administered the oath of office before a teary-eyed Karen Butler helped her husband don his new jurist robe.

In an emotional moment, the newly robed Fannin County Court at Law Judge told those in attendance the only other moment in his life that he had been this nervous was when he had asked Karen to be his wife, without knowing what her answer would be. A beaming Mrs. Charles Butler smiled from her chair nearby and wiped tears from her eyes.

Rev. Liz Talbert delivered the benediction and a reception immediately followed.
