Criminal District Attorney Richard Glaser reports that the Fannin County Grand Jury heard thirty-three (33) cases presented for its consideration during their August 18 session. Of the 33 cases  scheduled for presentment, three were passed to the September Grand Jury session, two were no billed, and 28 were true billed and indictments filed with the District Clerk, Nancy Young.  Once filed, those cases will be promptly scheduled for a first appearance before Judge Laurine Blake of the 336th District Court.

 Of those 28 new cases, 9 were either violent or sexual assaults and another 9 cases were alcohol or drug related.  The remaining 10 cases were 2 theft of property cases, 2 bail jumping cases, 3 burglary cases, 1 robbery case, 1 unauthorized of a motor vehicle case, and 1 evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle.

 So far in 2011, the Grand Jury has returned 278 true bills of indictment.

It is important to note that an indictment is a formal charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
