McKINNEY, TEXAS – McKinney will host a ceremony this year celebrating the dedication of the Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney. The community is invited to honor all veterans at a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the site of the new Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney.
This event will also serve as the park grand opening. Speakers at the event will include U.S. Congressmen Sam Johnson and Ralph Hall, and McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller. The McKinney North High School choir will perform a choral prelude, and the ceremony also includes a flyover and performance of Taps.
“McKinney is proud to recognize and honor the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom,” said Mayor Loughmiller. “The new Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney has been a long-awaited dream of many in our community, and it will be a landmark site the entire city can be proud of for generations to come.”
The Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney features a Wall of Honor inscribed with names of Collin County service members who died in the line of duty, and the park honors all veterans. Immediately following the ceremony, LegacyTexas Bank hosts the Lone Star Salute adjacent to the site. This event lasts until 2 p.m. and gives attendees the opportunity to visit with friends, family and veterans and tour the park. Music is provided by Kenny & the Kasuals. A sundown ceremony will be held beginning at sunset on Friday, Nov. 11, which will include the reading of the 345 names displayed on the Wall of Honor. An assembly bugle call will sound at 5:25 p.m., and the ceremony will last approximately 45 minutes.
