Celeste Lady Blue Devils, 39 Wolfe City 28

Celeste -- A speedy, trapping defense spurred the Celeste Lady Blue Devils to an 11-point win over the Wolfe City Lady Wolves in district action Monday afternoon.

Both teams came into the game with 1-1 district records.

In the first half, the Lady Blue Devils' pressure defense forced turnovers that resulted in transition baskets as Celeste went up 16-6 after the first quarter and 25-11 at the half.

Wolfe City came out to collect a field goal and free throw by Michaela Burge to close to within 25-14 as the second half got underway, but a 6-0 run by the Lady Blue Devils featuring the inside/outside game of Tiffany Crossland and Haley Trentham gave Celeste a 31-15 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Wolfe City outscored Celeste 13-8 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough the catch the Lady Blue Devils as Celeste posted a 39-28 victory.

Miranda Watterson led Wolfe City with 10 points, Michaela Burge scored seven, Sarah Andrews finished with five points, Larissa Lewis had three points, Lincoln Thacker threw in two points and Danielle Wright netted a free throw.

Celeste's Tiffany Crossland led all scorers with 16 points, Haley Trentham had a pair of triples and scored seven, with Jessica Turnbaugh, Madelyne Pearce and Haley Willmon all finishing with four points apiece for the Lady Blue Devils.
