Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for Betty Ruth Thornton, age 70 of Bonham, TX will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, TX. Rev. Claude Robbins will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Burns Cemetery in Trenton, TX. Mrs. Thornton passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Bonham.

Betty Ruth (McDowell) Thornton was born on September 16, 1941 in Bonham, TX to ErbinBassell and Valma Susan (Wooten) McDowell. She married John Brown Thornton on March 20, 1959 in Bonham, TX. Mrs. Thornton was a nurse’s aide, a housewife, and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by Husband-John Thornton of the home; Daughter and son-in-law-Darlene and Allen Wesley Lehman of Oakwood, TX; Daughter-Arlene Gail McDonald of Naples, TX; Daughter-Kimberly Diane Thornton of Fairfield, TX; 7 Grandchildren-Kenneth McDonald, Allen Wayne Lehman, Jeremy Lehman, Robert McClatchey, Kyle Lehman, Michelle McDonald, and Robin Collett; 11 great grandchildren; Sisters-Jane Wright, Mary Haywood, Evelyn Leatherwood, and Lela Mae Robbins; Brother-Erbin Junior McDowell; and family friend Gregory John McDonald. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a son, and a granddaughter.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth McDonald, Allen Wayne Lehman, Jeremy Lehman, Robert McClatchey, Kyle Lehman, and Eric Collett.

Family visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 7-8 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
