Van Alstyne, Texas -- Services for Helen Turney age 83 of Van Alstyne will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.

Mrs Turney passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Sherman.

Helen was born January 1, 1929 in Van Alstyne, Texas, the daughter of John Wesley Hix and Mary Jane Reneau Hix. She married John Otis Turney November, 1948 in Van Alstyne, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne. Helen loved to quilt, garden and was a great cook.

She is survived by her son and his wife; John and Rebecca Turney of Van Alstyne; Daughter and her husband, Marsha and Gary Waldrep of Bedford, Texas; Brother Robert Hix of Texarkana, Texas; Sisters; Ollie Lou Jenkins of Van Alstyne, Texas; Mary Francis Torres of Fairfield, Texas; and Peggy Jane Sparkman Of Euless, Texas; One grandson; Jon Casey Waldrep of Bedford.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband and a infant daughter.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne.
