DALLAS – Peter Dancy, FACHE, was appointed associate director of VA North Texas Health Care System on March 25.  Dancy is responsible for administration of logistics, engineering, human resources, pharmacy, prosthetics, health information management and fiscal services for the second largest VA system in the nation. VA North Texas provides care to more than 111,000 unique patients, with 1.4 million outpatient visits. With an annual operating budget of $868.9 million, the system has a staff of over 4,600 and more than 1,700 volunteers.

Prior to joining VA North Texas Health Care System, Dancy served as associate director of Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Chicago. Before starting his VA career, Dancy was the associate administrator (chief operating officer) of Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston.

Dancy understands the sacrifice and commitment of those who wore the uniform. He is a veteran and retired from the U.S. Army in 2006, earning the rank of lieutenant colonel after more than 22 years of military service. “It is an honor and privilege for me to give back to a military profession that has allowed me to have a fulfilling career serving our country,” Dancy said. “Serving fellow veterans gives me an opportunity to continue in that service.”

A board certified health care executive and fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Dancy previously served with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care as an ambulatory health care surveyor. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Morehouse College in Georgia, a Master of Health Administration from Baylor University and a Master of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

“I am excited to return to Texas,” Dancy said. “VA North Texas is cutting edge and putting veterans at the center of care. I join a leadership team and group of professionals who are not afraid to step out of the box when it means a better health care outcome for our patients who have already sacrificed so much.”

As VA’s second largest health care system, VA North Texas serves over 111,000 unique patients, delivering over one million outpatient visits in 38 counties in North Texas and two in Oklahoma.
