On December 14, 2011, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a landowner on County Road 3335 had found a human skull on his property.

Deputies, along with a Texas Ranger and TDCJ K-9 Unit, responded to the location and conducted a search of the entire area.  Numerous bone fragments along with the skull were collected and sent to a forensics lab for processing.

Reports from the lab have identified the human remains as Gary Don Stewart, 43-year-old, white/male.

Stewart was last seen leaving a residence on FM 68 on foot after learning that law enforcement had been called to investigate an altercation he had with his girlfriend on 3/20/2010.   Foul play is not suspected.
