The Bonham Public Library's Texas Reading Club is still in full swing this month, with many children already having met the challenge of reading 15 books. Entertainment begins on Tuesday, July 3 with BRETT ROBERTS'S MAGIC SCHOOL. The performance will be 10:00 a.m. at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church in Bonham. The program is free and open to anyone.
The Texas Reading Club is self ]paced and fosters reading success by asking children to record titles of books that they read or the length of the time they spend reading each day. A tee shirt and beautiful certificate signed by the Texas governor will be awarded to each child who attains the goal of reading 15 books. Children who are too young to read can participate in the Texas Reading Club by recording titles of books that are read to them.
Brett Roberts lives in Fort Worth and is a former elementary school teacher. He has also been in the entertainment industry for 25 years.
From Brett Roberts:
gMost magicians make their helpers look foolish, but I make children the stars. Since I have children of my own, and I've spent several years teaching, I have a unique way of making that happen. Mary Kay Ash, who created one of the most successful cosmetic companies in America, had a wonderful idea. One of the most crucial concepts she taught her sales team was to imagine that every person they met had a banner on their foreheads saying 'Make Me Feel Special.' My job is to make your child feel special. When I perform for pre-K children, I let children think they are making the magic happen. They always laugh and giggle when they think theyfve made something disappear. And, when I perform for older children, I actually teach them magic tricks they can do. Even though these tricks can fool adults, they are easy to perform. When kids learn a skill, it builds up their self esteem and that's what my show is all about.
