Thanks to a generous donation on behalf of a former Bonham resident who loved animals and many hours of hard work by members of the Bonham Police Department, City of Bonham officials held an official open house at the new Bonham Animal Shelter.
Joe Kirkpatrick, on behalf of the estate of his daughter Linda Kirkpatrick, donated $50,000 to the City of Bonham for more humane treatment of stray animals.
"This is a big step for us," remarked Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd. "It will be improved -- in fact we have several improvements already planned -- but this gets us started on our way. Bonham Police Chief Mike Bankston and his men have worked very hard to make this happen."
The Bonham mayor also expressed his gratitude to Bonham City Manager Corby Alexander for his work on the project.

Mayor Floyd singled out animal control officers Jimmy Gilbert and Freddie Wright for their dedication to getting the new facility open.
"We thank them for their service and for what this animal shelter will mean to Bonham residents," stated Floyd.
